| Property Name: | GrandMarc at the Corner |
| Location: |
Charlottesville, VA |
| Description: |
GrandMarc at the Corner, a strong complement to the existing
multifamily developments in proximity to the University of
Virginia campus, will help meet the high demand for upscale
student housing.
Designed as an academic community where students live near
the campus, the property provides an attractive investment
opportunity that was available on an advantaged acquisition basis.
GrandMarc at the Corner is a planned student
housing complex located near the University of
Virginia (UV) campus in Charlottesville, Virginia.
This property was purchased on an advantaged
basis and complements our plans to expand in the
multifamily sector. Behringer Harvard has provided
approximately $6.1 million in mezzanine financing
and has an agreement to acquire an equity stake in the
property after completion of construction.
GrandMarc at the Corner will be designed in the
spirit of Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village,
which is located on the UV campus. The property
will intertwine academic and residential areas
for students and faculty—a design that reflects
Jefferson’s belief that knowledge is enhanced by the
interaction between scholars and students.
The GrandMarc at the Corner will feature 649 beds and
totals approximately 232,000 square feet. The property
will address the need for high-quality residential
accommodations near the Central Grounds. Two large
courtyards will enhance the natural beauty of the site,
providing shaded and sunny areas, a garden, a grove of
trees, and a bubbling fountain.
Additional amenities of the property will include
a media room, a fitness facility, a student lounge,
electronic study halls, and a pool.
